Cold Lake, Alberta

The town of Cold Lake, Alberta, became the City of Cold Lake on October 1st, 2000. In 1996, on the same date, Grand Centre, Medley, and Cold Lake amalgamated to become the Town of Cold Lake. The Medley portion of the town was established as a RCAF station in 1953/54, called 4 Wing. The accompanying Air Weapons Range (now called CLAWR/PLER) was created in the same year.

Clark's General store, which still exists today as a lake-side restaurant, was built in 1919. Cold Lake is home to many Native Canadian reservations founded more than 100 years ago.

Cold Lake's main sources of employment consist of the Air Force Base, tourism, and a vast connection to the Tar Sands oil industry.
