Cock lane ghost
The Cock Lane Ghost was a sensational story that appeared in the year 1762. The ghost was allegedly that of the murdered owner of a house on the street of the same name in the West Smithfield area of of the City of London. The phantom manifested itself at night when it would predict the future and generally disturb the large crowds that would gather. It was eventually exposed as a fraud. Mentioned in the first chapter of Charles Dicken's Tale of Two Cities.
