Church of the Gesu
The Church of the Gesu — formally known in the Italian language as Chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Gesù and translates into the English language as the Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus — is the motherchurch of the Society of Jesus. It is in Rome, Italy at 16 Via degli Astalli in the Piazza del Gesù. The current structure replaced an older, smaller chapel of Saint Ignatius of Loyola dedicated to Our Lady of the Way. The soldier turned saint began planning for the Church of the Gesu in 1551.
