Chrétienite

(Redirected from Chretienite)

A political supporter of Jean Chrétien as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and Prime Minister of Canada, against the attempt by Paul Martin to force him to retire.

Ultimately unsuccessful in this effort, as Chrétien did retire, some switched support to Paul Martin, while others backed leadership rivals John Manley and Sheila Copps. Martin was the winner in a landslide, as Manley dropped out early and Copps was not widely seen as a credible candidate.

Subsequently, Martin alienated many by refusing to give prominent Chrétienite ministers Manley and Stephane Dion, among others, cabinet positions. He was also seen as complicit in ensuring Copps lost her nomination battle (for MP) with Tony Valeri.

Other prominent Chrétienites include Brian Tobin and Allan Rock, but arguably the most vocal of them is Canadian blogger Warren Kinsella.
