Cholodecki

The Chołodecki szlachta from Volhynia and Galicia use the Białynia Coat of Arms
The Polish surname of the noble (szlachta) family, of Chołodecki (a.k.a. Cholodecki / Hołodecki / Holodecki) is derived from the village of Chołodziec, (a.k.a. Cholodziec / Kholodets / Hołodziec / Hołodki / Holodziec / Holodki / Холодец) which is located approximately 2–3 km from the Town of Kupiel (a.k.a. Kupil) currently located in the Ukraine. The Chołodecki surname first appears in the 16th century in Poland. According to the historian Józef Białynia Chołodecki, an unknown member of the Białynia clan was given the rights to develop the land in the village of Chołodziec, and that individual took the last name of Chołodecki.

Members of the Chołodecki family owned numerous tracts of land in Volhynia and Galicia in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Due to the family having many members involved in the November Uprising of 1830 and January Uprising of 1863, the family living in Volhynia had all of its land and belongings confiscated, while the small section of the family located in Galicia was left with a few villages.

The Białynia Coat of Arms is used by the Chołodecki's from Volhynia and Galicia.
