Chief of Defence (Denmark)
The Chief of Defence of Denmark, under responsibility of the Defence minister, is the commander1 of the Danish Royal Army, the Danish Royal Navy and the Danish Royal Air Force. The Chief of Defence is the military adviser to the Defence minister and the commander of the Defence Command
The Chief of Defence is the highest-ranking2 military officer in Denmark and has the rank of General (or Admiral if from the Navy) (OF-9), and controllers roughly 93% of all military spending in Denmark.
Since the Danish Home Guard and Defence intelligence is directly under the Ministry of Defence, the Chief of Defence is not commander of these. Only in times of war will the Home Guard Command be transferred to the Defence Command, and thus come under the authority of the Chief of Defence.
The job rotates evenly between the Army, Navy and Air Force. There is no fixed length of time associated with the position. See here for a list of Chief of Defence of Denmark
1Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is the supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Danish Defence.
2Prince Henrik, Prince consort of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, also holds this rank.
