Chhatrapati

Chhatra literally means roof in Marathi language. Pati literally means husband in Marathi or Hindi language. However in context of the Marathi word Chhatrapati, it means king or ruler.

In Marathi language if someone refers to Chhatrapati without a name after it, they are usually referring to Chhatrapati Shivaji, the founder of Maratha empire in India.
