Cherkasy
Cherkasy (Ukrainian Черкаси) – a city in the central part of Ukraine (about 200km south of Kyiv), capital of Cherkas'ka oblast', with 280,700 inhabitants (2004). The city is located on the bank of Dnipro River, and in particular, the Kremenchuk water reservoir.
The train line from Moscow to Odessa goes through Cherkasy, crossing the Dnipro River here on a 12 km long bridge for trains and cars.
Educational institutions include the Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University (named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky) and the Cherkasy State Technological University.
