Chaff City
Chaff City is a webcomic created and drawn by Mike Laraman. The comic is centred around the antics of a few surreal characters. Sometimes comics will exist as one-offs, generally ending with a witty one-liner or pun, and sometimes they will be part of a larger storyline.
As well as the regular comic (it is generally updated every three or four days, although no strict timetable is followed), there is occasionally a feature sketch, given in MP3 format, involving the same characters in audio form. Dr. Dirty's Diary, the fictitious blog of the eponymous character, is also a regular feature.
Recurring characters
- Deino – a small green dinosaur. Mayor Mike's aide. He is highly camp and thought to be gay (a rumour which has not been verified). He is disliked by all.
- Dr. Dirty – a stick man who is also a doctor. He is blatantly guilty of malpractice and has hardly any patients, let alone satisfied ones. He runs on caffeine and alcohol and is generally irritable and sardonic.
- Dwaine – a short yellow demon whose myopia and unimpressive stature mean that he isn't really cut out for the job. He is the nerd of the comic, but tries his best to fit in. He has died several times; each time he has been resurrected by some means.
- Glum Reaper – a manically depressed grim reaper who hates his job.
- Mayor Mike – the mayor of Chaff City, named after and loosely modelled on the comic's author. He wears shades and a trenchcoat, as inspired by The Matrix. He also has an unhealthy addiction to tea, a mark of the strip's English heritage.
- Murderella – a ridiculously gothic woman with a love of knives. Was Honksnozz's girlfriend until he was imprisoned for her crime.
- The Squibbler – a criminal mastermind who also happens to be a kiwi bird. He was good friends with the other characters before it was revealed that he only hung around with them so he could steal their coffee. He is now a sworn enemy of theirs.
- Zara – a robotic girl who is sensible, logical, and literal to a fault.
Characters who are no longer used
- Schoolgirl – used to be the strip's most sane character. She had a tendency to think things through. She was also very attractive.
- Katy the Kettle – a friendly kettle who made tea for the rest of the cast. She got on particularly well with Dr Dirty, but that was only because she was the sole supplier of the caffeine he craved.
- Galaxy Spoon – a spoon with apparent mystical powers.
- Gerald Honksnozz – a lethargic private detective. His character has not been seen in a strip since he was put in jail for murdering Dwaine (which, in fact, he did not do). Whether or not he will ever be released or his name cleared remains to be seen.
