Chafee Zoological Gardens
Chafee Zoological Gardens is a zoo in Fresno, California. The zoo started in 1908 with two bears and 50 birds. The American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums recognized the zoo in 1929. By 1947, the zoo had 100 animals. In 1949, the zoo purchased an elephant. In 1979, the Edward A. Kane Reptile House was the first computer controlled reptile exibit building in the world. The zoo has been previously known as the Roeding Park Zoo and the Fresno Zoo. In 1988 a Rainforest exhibit was built.
