Castaway
Castaway is a 1986 movie based on a book of the same name. The book was written by Lucy Irvine in 1984 about her experiences of staying for a year with her husband on an isolated island. The movie was directed by Nicolas Roeg.
In 1981, Lucy Irvine from London, responded to an advertisement in London magazine "Time Out" from writer Gerald Kingsland which read : "Writer seeks 'wife' for year on tropical island". The couple would have to spend an year in Tuin, an island between New Guinea and Australia. From over 50 applicants, Gerald chose Lucy. Lucy married Gerald in order to satisfy Australian immigration restrictions. Lucy and Gerald were aged 25 and 49 at the time.
A year later Lucy returned to England and published her memoirs.
The movie adaptation was made in 1986 with Amanda Donohoe and Oliver Reed playing the roles of Lucy and Gerald.
