Casey Tcholok
Casey Tcholok, is a main, tragic, and highly sympathetic character in James Clavell's novel Noble House.
Kamalian Ciranoush (K.C.) Tcholok is the twenty-seven year-old vice-president of Par-Con Industries, the company founded and run by Lincoln Bartlett. She met Bartlett when she was 20, and the two fell in love. However, she wanted to pursue a business career until she had enough money to be set for life. She and Bartlett agreed to put their romance on hold for seven years, and to spend that time working together to build up Par-Con, an arrangement that they stuck to.
In Noble House, Casey is charged with putting together a partnership deal with Struan's, a deal which is critical to save Struan's from ruin. In the meantime, Bartlett is exploring doing the deal with Struan's rival Quillan Gornt. Casey finds herself being drawn to both Gornt and Struan's tai-pan Ian Dunross, while watching with dread as Bartlett falls in love with Gornt's protege Orlanda Ramos.
Not trusting Ramos, and fearing she may lose Bartlett, Casey hatches a scheme to help Dunross get financing from an American bank, at a critical moment when Struan's needs cash to prevent going under. Gornt considers this a betrayal.
Casey is an extremely sharp businesswoman, and also extremely attractive. Thrust into the highly chauvinistic world of Hong Kong business, she is forced to confront what are apparently contradictory goals – success in business, and success in romance. That is, succeeding in a "man's world" or succeeding as a woman. This represents Casey's main conflict throughout the novel.
In the end, Casey succeeds in becoming very wealthy with the completion of the deal with Struan's, but this happens only after she realizes what she really wants is Bartlett, who in the meantime has died.
