Carole Boston Weatherford
Carole Boston Weatherford is an African American author and cultural critic, now living in North Carolina, USA. She writes children's books, poetry, history, and social commentary, and has won several awards.
She claimed in a 2000 newpaper article Politically Incorrect Pokemon that Pokemon #124, Jynx is a negative stereotype of African Americans via newspaper. Nintendo agreed to apologise to change Jynx's face from black to purple in 2002. Shogakukan, the company of the Pokemon anime, finally changed its face colour in 2005.
Together with the article "Politically Incorrect Pokemon", she also unsucessfully sued the Cantonese name of "Darlie Toothpaste" (which remain 黑人牙膏 "Black man toothpaste"). Although, many people in Hong Kong talked about this incident, no action is paid. THis is because, the definition of 黑人 in Cantonese and "Blackman" in English is different.
