Cagalli Yula Athha

A character from the Cosmic Era timeline of the fictional Gundam anime metaseries.

Cagalli Yula Athha is a Natural, adopted daughter of Uzumi Nara Athha, President of Orb Union. She is also Kira Yamato's twin sister, although that fact was not known until later in the Bloody Valentine War.

Cagalli first appeared during the ZAFT attack on Heliopolis, disguised in the laboratory where the Earth Alliance secret mobile suit units were developed. Those same units were the target of the ZAFT attack. Discovering the units she cried that her father was a traitor: this could mean that the technology to develop those units came from Orb, a neutral faction, or it could mean that Orb was officially giving technology to the Earth Alliance, and she was enraged because Heliopolis was a neutral colony. On Heliopolis she also met Kira Yamato for the first time, and he saved her from Heliopolis' destruction by pushing her in a lifepod.

Cagalli reappeared later in the Bloody Valentine War as a member of the Desert Dawn resistance movement in ZAFT-occupied northern Africa. Here she revealed her identity as Cagalli Yula Athha, the daughter of Orb Union president. In Africa she met for the first time Athrun Zala, albeit as enemies.

Cagalli eventually joined the crew of the Archangel when the ship arrived to Orb. In the final phases of the War she piloted the MBF-02 Strike Rouge as member of the Clyne Faction.

While on Archangel Cagalli developed a deep bond with Kira, who she later discovereds is her brother, but her romantic interest is oriented to Athrun. She actually saved his life in the destruction of GENESIS by reminding him that there was someone who needed him alive.

After the war she got appointed Representative of Orb, and got manipulated by Yuuna Roma Seiran to endorse the alliance between the Earth Alliance and Orb, an alliance that eventually forced Orb to deploy their units against ZAFT forces. Being Yuna and Cagalli officially engaged from young age, by their parents' arrangement, he also tried to marry her. Just before the ceremony, Kira "kidnapped" Cagalli and took her again on the Archangel.

The Archangel left Orb, now Alliance territory, and hide underwater until the Dardanelles Battle, where Cagalli tried unsuccesfully to stop Orb's units from attacking ZAFT units.

Like Kira and Athrun, Cagalli has the ability to go into SEED mode.

Her image song, Akatsuki no Kuruma is composed by Yuki Kajiura and sung by Yuka Nanri (collectively known as FictionJunction YUUKA) and is used at the end of Phase-40.
