Bunkhouse Stampede

The Bunkhouse Stampede was a battle royale where the wrestlers were allowed to bring weapons to the match.

History

In 1985, the NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions came up with a new match to increase the fans' interest in their product.

The Bunkhouse Stampede was a regular battle royale where the wrestlers wore "bunkhouse gear" (blue jeans and cowboy boots, etc.} to the match. Weapons were also allowed. For example, Ivan and Nikita Koloff brought their "Russian" Chains to the ring, the Road Warriors brought their spikes, etc.

To win this match, you had to be the last one in the ring, with all of the other wrestlers being thrown over the top rope. These were most often bloddy matches, as there were several weapons involved.

Each year, there were several Bunkhouse Stampede's held with the winners of each one going to the final Bunkhouse Stampede to battle for the championship. They ran from 1985 through 1988 and then they did not have any more Bunkhouse Stampede matches.

These matches were not televised, with the exception of one of the first ones, but it was cut off after only a few minutes of action. That was on NWA Television on December 28, 1985. The 1987 Championship was held on PPV on January 24, 1988 in Uniondale, New York at the Nassau Coliseum. The 1988 Championship was held at Starrcade '88 on December 26, 1988.
