Bruno Gerussi
Bruno Gerussi (1928 – November 21, 1995) was a Canadian television actor born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, best known for the CBC series The Beachcombers, shot near Vancouver, British Columbia from 1972 to 1989. In the late 1970s, concurrent with his work on Beachcombers, Gerussi also hosted Celebrity Cooks, a popular daily cooking-cum-talk show on CBC.
He was the host of the first Genie Awards broadcast in 1980 and the following year presented a Genie award to American actor Jack Lemmon. Gerussi received a Gemini Award nomination for Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Continuing Dramatic Role in 1990 for The Beachcomber's final season. He won the Gemini's Earle Grey Award for lifetime achievement in 1996. He died of a heart attack in Vancouver at the age of 67.
The TV movie The New Beachcombers was dedicated in his memory. The popular Canadian rock group Bruno Gerrusi's Medallion was also named in his honor.
