Brenda K. Starr

Brenda K. Starr, not to be confused with comic strip character, Brenda Starr, is a singer who originally was a Dance-Pop artist, but now mostly dabbles in Salsa based music.

Ironically, Brenda is most famous not for her own music, but for being the former boss of Mariah Carey (as Mariah was once Brenda's backup singer.) Brenda helped Mariah secure a recording contract by inviting her to a party where Mariah's infamous demo tape landed in the hands of Tommy Mottola, who in turn signed her.

Although Mariah's career had greatly overshadowed Brenda's, Mariah seems to keep in occasional contact with Brenda, and thanked her in the "thank you" section of her albums Mariah Carey and Music Box. Mariah particularly thanked Brenda in another number, #1's, by writing a personalized tribute, and remaking one of Brenda's songs, I Still Believe.
