Bogoslof Island
Bogoslof Island is the summit of a largely submarine stratovolcano located in the Bering Sea 50 km (31 mi) behind the main Aleutian volcanic arc. The peak elevation of the island is 150 m (492 feet). It is located at 53.93° N 168.03° W. It last erupted in 1992.
In 1909 President Theodore Roosevelt dedicated Bogoslof and Fire islands as a sanctuary for sea lions and nesting marine birds. They are now part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. The islands were added to the National Wilderness Preservation System in 1970.
