Bocha

Bocha is a game in which the objective is to hit one ball into another. Bocha is a modified version of an indigineus game called botchia, the first rules for the game were established by the portuguese prince Pedro Álvares Cabral in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Little modifications have been made since then, most of them concerning the break of the game into periods of time. The most famous practioner of the game, despite his reclusiveness, is Seu Osny

A more hardcore version of the game has been quite popular among the youth in the past 3 years, which brings attention once again to the almost forgotten sport of bocha.

A perfect score in a bocha match was made by Seu Osny in April 5, 1975 in the city of Pelotas. Several people witnessed the uncanny bocha record in disbelief. The record still remains unbroken after almost 30 years.

An Annual Tournament, named "Seu Osny Intercup" as a homage to Seu Osny, was created in 1999 and a prize of US$5000 has been offered to any one who breaks the record during the tournament. It had accumulated to US$25000 the last time the tournament was held, in 2003. Players from all regions in Brazil come in hope of fame and money, but so far none have proved to be up to the challenge.
