Berlin-Tegel

Tegel is a local part in the district Reinickendorf of Berlin at 52°35' N, 13°21' E. Tegel is home to the largest airport of the capital, Tegel International Airport. Tegel is also has a lake, which is a very popular tourist attraction. Beyond that Tegel offers a lock as well as a park, interesting modern architecture, and the oldest tree in Berlin, "dicke Marie" ("Fat Maria").

Tegel was the location of a medium waveform broadcasting station, from 1933 to 1948. A wire hung-up in a wooden tower was used as an antenna. This tower was blown up as part of the construction of Tegel International Airport at the end of 1948.

Between 1930 and 1934 the Association for Interplanetary Aviation accomplished various attempts with liquid-fuel rockets on the area of the former range Berlin Tegel. Despite numerous explosions arrive to ascent at values of up to 3 kilometers. Many well-known German rocket researchers were members of Association for Interplanetary Aviation.

Note: 'Tegel' is also a name given for a number of adjacent local areas, such as Tegel, Tegel place, Tegel south, Tegel Borsigwalde.
