Bella Davidovich
Bella Davidovich (born 1928) is a Azerbaijani pianist. She shared the first prize of the fourth International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition in 1949 with Halina Czerny-Stefanska.
Davidovich was born in Baku and began studying piano when she was six. Three years later, she played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 with a Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1939, she moved to Moscow to continue her musical education. When she won the first prize in 1949, it launched her on a very successful career in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. In the following years she appeared as soloist with the Leningrad Philharmonic and also taught at the Moscow Conservatory.
In 1978 she emigrated to the U.S. where she became a naturalized citizen. She has taught at the famous Juilliard School of Music in New York City since 1982.
