Toyota Aygo
Toyota Aygo is a small car (3.41 m long, 1.62 m wide and 1.47 m high) that will be released in 2005. The Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1 are badge-engineered versions of the same car for the other brands involved in the deal. All of them are to be built at the new facilities of the TPCA joint-venture (Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile) in the city of Kolin, in the Czech Republic. The decision to make these cars was made on July 12, 2001, when the presidents of Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroën, Fujio Cho and Jean-Martin Folz, decided to produce a small joint car to share the development costs. The starting price is 8,500 euros. The main difference is in the interior equipment, shields, logos etc. The planned production is 300,000 cars annually – 100,000 cars per each brand. The sale begins in July 2005 and the car is intended for 4 people with 3 or 5 doors. There are two variants of the motor:
- 1 liter gasoline with 68 horse powers
- 1,4 liter diesel HDi with 54 horse powers (starting from the beginning of 2006)
These cars are deemed to be very safe and comfortable and their consuption is below average. Among others, Aygo was displayed at the 2005 Salon de l'Automobile de Genève and more recently at the 2005 Belgrade Automobile Fair. This car is expected to reach high popularity among vehicles of the supermini class.
