Avadi is a place in Chennai, India which is surrounded by Major Defence establishments. People usually call this place as Military area. The major military establishments are Air force, Army, HVF, CVRDE, CRPF, CVD (Central Vehicle Depot) and OCF.Air force conducts technical training for its department personnels.CVRDE which stands for Combat Vehicle Research and Development Establishment,wherein major research on battle tanks are undertaken.CVRDE produces Russian version of T-90 tank known as Bhishma and also indegeniously designed tank Arjun. Almost 75% of the region is covered with these organizations, which doesn't permit anyone to do any private business here. Nearby residential areas are Muthapudupettai, Defence Enclave, Veerapuram, Mittanemallli, Brindavan Nagar and Sabhi Nagar, wherein most of employees of these organizations live with their families.There are also plenty of schools and colleges in the area.The name of nearest railway station is Siding E depot. It is nearly 30 km far from Chennai Central station, making it isolated from city.
