Auxerrois

Auxerrois is a historical province of France, part of Burgundy.

Auxerrois is also the local French name for the Malbec (or Côt) red wine grape variety grown in the Cahors region of France. It is also, confusingly, an important white wine grape in the Alsace region called the Auxerrois Blanc. This too is distinct from another locally grown white wine grape called the Auxerrois Gris that is actually the Pinot Gris grape.

The Alsace Auxerrois blanc is also grown in Germany where it is known as Auxerrois.

Another grape, bearing the alias name Gros Auxerrois, was once found widely grown in the south of France and, currently known as Napa Gamay in California, is actually the variety Valdiguié.
