Australian Defence Force Academy

The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) is the University College for the Australian Defence Force for educating junior officers of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force, and for post-graduate study by more senior ADF personnel.

ADFA is sited in the suburb of Campbell in Canberra, the Capital city of Australia, adjacent to the Royal Military College, Duntroon.

In late 2003, the Australian Department of Defence entered into another agreement with the University of New South Wales for the operation of ADFA which is thus the 'University College'.

ADFA is governed for the University by a Rector. ADFA is commanded for the Australian Defence Force by a Commodore, Brigadier, or Air Commodore on rotation.

Midshipmen (Navy) and Cadets (Army & Air Force) undertake three and four year graduate degrees, and some simple military training, during academic semesters. Service military training is done during academic breaks.

Post-graduate studies are done by more senior service members and by civilians from the Canberra region. Increasingly, distance-education units are also being offered for service members not based in Canberra.

University of New South Wales Degrees are offered at Diploma and Associate Diploma, Bachelor, Masters, and Doctorate level.

UNSW@ADFA Schools were restructured from twelve discipline-based Schools to five multi-disciplinary Schools as of 1 July 2003.
