Other meanings: AUD.

The name Aud has several well-known connotations:

  • In the Viking Age, Aud the Deep-Minded (Icelandic: Auður djúpúðga Ketilsdóttir (834–900 CE) was the wife of Olaf the White of Dublin, "King" of Ireland. After his death, she travelled the British Isles and ultimately to Iceland, where she founded Hvammur í Skeggjadal (commonly translated as "Hvamm").
  • In the fictional Buffyverse (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Aud was the original mortal name of Anyanka, a vengeance demon who came to be known as Anya. Coincidentally, she also had a lover named Olaf, but the fates of these two couples were considerably different.
