Astonishing X-Men

Astonishing X-Men is the name of three comic book series published by Marvel Comics and based on the X-Men franchise.

The first series was the flagship title of the alternate universe Age of Apocalypse crossover, and featured a team of X-Men led by Rogue battling Apocalypse's "son" Holocaust.

The second series featured an impromptu team of X-Men – including new members Cable and X-Man – battling "Death", a mysterious agent of Apocalypse. It was later revealed that "Death" was actually a mind controlled Wolverine, and that the "Wolverine" who was a member of the X-Men at the time was an imposter, a shapeshifting Skrull.

The third series is currently ongoing, written by Joss Whedon and illustrated by John Cassaday. It is a continuation of the first New X-Men title. In his first story arc, Whedon brought fan-favorite X-Character Colossus back from the dead, revealing that he had been a guinnea pig of sorts in an underground mutant research complex. Whedon, Cassaday, and the title have been nominated for several Eisner Awards.
