Aspect

Aspect can mean one of the following things:

  • In computer programming, an aspect is a feature that is linked to many parts of a program, but which is not necessarily the primary function of the program.
  • In linguistics, aspect is a grammatical feature having to do with the internal temporal flow of an event.
  • In railway signalling, the aspect is the number of lights on the signal and their state (EG. red, red, off, semaphore at horizontal, etc), EG. the standard 3 light traffic signal is a three-aspect signal.
  • In astrology, aspect is the relative angle between two heavenly bodies.
  • In remote sensing, as above, aspect is also the relative angular subtense of a remote object.
  • In quantum physics it is most likely to refer to Alain Aspect, the French physicist of Bell test experiment fame.
