Asdf

Asdf are the first four letters on the home row of a QWERTY or QWERTZ keyboard. They are often used as a sample or test case, or as random, meaningless nonsense. In some cases, this is a default password for a few systems and the password of people who don't take the time to choose a less-guessable password.

'asdf' is usually in many dictionary crackers, since there is always the possibility that some user has left their password as 'asdf' by default. It is a general practice for system administrators to run a password check on their users, if it is possible, for any users that use personal passwords. It is a very good idea to at least run a password check (to make sure they aren't easily cracked) for any user who has access to critical systems or has special admin privileges.

The internet has taken to the idea that many users type in the characters 'asdf' when they're not searching for anything in particular, and just want to fill in a given field. If you run a search through any given search engine, you'll see many websites listed with the keyword 'asdf'. Some forward thinking people have registered 'asdf' domain names. asdf.com is a very popular website that tries to determine the hidden meaning behind the characters, asdf.org has been around for a while and 'asdf' in their context actually means something, and asdf.info is a relatively new but growing, free information center.
