Anwar Robinson

Anwar Robinson

Anwar F. Robinson (born April 21, 1979) was a contestant on the fourth season of American Idol.

Robinson grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. He first started to sing when he was eight, and trained as a tenor in classical technique in college for about four years under Dr. Scott J. McCoy, graduating in 2001. Some time later, Robinson became a junior high school music teacher, settling in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was also a member of a group called The Perfect Combination.

In 2005, Robinson successfully auditioned for American Idol in Washington D.C. He proceeded to the Top 12, but was voted off on April 20, after his performance of Earth Wind and Fire's "September" during 1970s dance music week. Only six contestants remained after Robinson's departure.

Robinson is reportedly gay and has been out since high school. However Fox Broadcasting Company officials asked him to keep it private while he is a contestant on American Idol and his sexual orientation is not mentioned in his official Fox biography.[1]
