Anker Jørgensen

Anker Jørgensen (born in Copenhagen July 13, 1922). Married to mrs. Ingrid Jørgensen (17.08.1922 – 18.10.1997) for 49 years and father of four children. Was a Danish political figure. He was the prime minister of Denmark between 1972 and 1973, and again from 1975 until 1982. For a breaf period he was also foreign minister at the same time. Chairman of Danish Workers Union, SiD, 1968 – 1972 and several other leading positions in unions before his political career. Member of The Copenhagen Council 1960 – 1964. Member of Danish parlament (Folketinget) from 1964 to 1994. In 1972 he succeeded Jens Otto Krag as leader of the Danish Social Democratic Party, and was succeeded by Svend Auken in 1987. Stepped down as prime minister on september 10th. 1982 due to uncertain parlamentary situation. Head of danish delegation to The Nordic Council. Elected Dane Of The Year 1990. Author of several autobiographies.
