Doggie Julian

Alvin F. "Doggie" Julian (b. April 5, 1901 in Reading, Pennsylvania – d. July 28, 1967) was a well-known college men's basketball coach. He gained legendary status by leading the College of the Holy Cross to the NCAA title in 1947. His team (inclunding later NBA great Bob Cousy) almost repeated this feat in 1948, losing in the semifinals. Julian was engaged by the Boston Celtics after his college success, but he only recorded 47–81 before he was dismissed in 1950. Julian returned to collegiate ranks, coaching the Dartmouth College from 1950 to 1967.
