Alps Electric Corporation

Alps Electric Corporation produces electronic devices, including touchpads. Alps is a multinational corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company was established in 1948. As of 2004, the CEO is Masataka Kataoka.

Alps licenses their touchpad hardware from Cirque Corporation, but writes their own drivers. Their drivers are Windows certified. They all have simple features such as edge scrolling, but no programmability. They also have an icon on the taskbar, which is missing from Cirque drivers. They are mostly found in Sony notebooks. Most other companies tend to use Synaptics for their better features and drivers. However, Alps have included an icon in the taskbar similar to the Synaptics one, and sometimes it is possible for users to confuse the two manufacturers.
