Allegheny Front

The Allegheny Front is an escarpment, or abrupt change in elevation, extending from northern Pennsylvania into southeastern West Virginia. It is bordered on the east by a valley that begins the Ridge-and-valley Appalachians, and on the west it forms the bulwark of the Allegheny Mountains. The front has an elevational change of up to two thousand feet.
