Alfred Brehm
Alfred Edmund Brehm (February 2, 1829 – November 11, 1884) was a German zoologist. He was the son of Christian Ludwig Brehm.
Brehm is mostly known for the encyclopaedia Illustriertes Thierleben. Eine allgemeine Kunde des Thierreichs, 1864–1865 (Life of Animals). The second edition (1876–1879, 2nd printing 1883–1887) featured paintings (by Gustav Mützel) based on observations of live animals (which the first edition apparently didn't, since the preface of the 2nd edition makes a point of this). It was often re-issued, at least into the 1960s.
