Alanis Obomsawin
Alanis Obomsawin (born August 31, 1932) is a Canadian filmmaker of Abenaki descent. She has produced and directed many National Film Board documentaries on First Nations culture and history.
Born in New Hampshire, and raised primarily in Quebec, she began her career as a singer, and released an album of traditional Abenaki songs, Bush Lady, in 1988. As well, she is a member of the boards of Aboriginal Voices, Aboriginal Peoples Television Network and Vermont Public Television.
She was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1983 and was promoted to Officer in 2001.
