Alabama Territory

The Alabama Territory was a historic, organized territory of the United States that was created out of the from the eastern portion of the Mississippi Territory. The territory was organized March 3, 1817, shortly before Mississippi became a state. St. Stephens was the first territorial capital; and William Wyatt Bibb was the only territorial governor. Just two years later, on December 14, 1819, Alabama was admitted as the 22nd state.
