Abney Park Cemetery

Abney Park Cemetery

Abney Park Cemetery is in Stoke Newington in north-east London, UK. It is a Victorian Garden cemetery, and now a designated as a Local Nature Reserve and conservation area.

Abney Park Cemetery is owned by the London Borough of Hackney, is situated near Stoke Newington High Street, London N16, and it is managed by the "Abney Park Cemetery Trust". The site occupies 32 acres (129,000 m²), includes a nature reserve with a visitor's centre, and is open on weekdays from 9.30 am to 5 pm.

One of the 'Magnificent Seven' London cemeteries created in the early Victorian period, Abney Park features an impressive entrance designed by Joseph Bonomi the Younger (in collaboration with William Hosking), built in the then increasingly popular Egyptian revival style with hieroglyphics signifying the Abode of the Mortal Part of Man.
