Abakuá
Abakua or Abakuá is an African religion originated in Nigeria and brought to Cuba by African slaves. It is a secret society which only men can join. The primary conditions for joining are: be straight, be a nice son, a nice brother, a responsible father and a good husband. Members and followers of Abakua can be found throughout the world. The vast majority are Cubans, though.
Nigeria and Cuba are the only countries where this religion is practiced. All members from many different countries have to become consecrated either in Cuba or in Nigeria. In 2002, a new sect of Abakuá was created in Cuba: Efí Masoñgo Obane.
