ACE (file format)
In computing, ACE is a compressed archive format with superior compression than ZIP but at the cost of a lower compression speed.
The file extension is .ace.
WinACE software has more powerful features than WinZIP but WinRAR is faster than both of them. Actual size of compressed files among all archiving software is similar.
There are also older versions of a program called "unace", that are licenced under the GPL, but can not extract newer archive versions (>2.0).
Besides there are free "unrar" programs for may plattforms (as Macos X, Linux), that are not free software.
Uses
ACE file formats are often used in warez releases, although this format is not as popular as RAR.
