8tv (Malaysia)

8tv is a Malaysian private-television station previously known as Metrovision, started broadcasting on January 12, 2004. It currently shares facilities with TV3 ; at its headquarters, Sri Pentas, Bandar Utama. It is currently known for hosting a reality tv show called Malaysian Idol.

8tv targets the younger block of viewers with a "one station, two channels' concept,whereby the first part of the broadcast features "Pat To Hung Gan" or the Chinese channel, where else the second part of the broadcast features mostly English programs. A third part of the broadcast features interactive live games.

8tv, togather with TV3, and local English daily the New Straits Times Press and Malay daily Berita Harian form the largest media group in Malaysia , collectively known as Media Prima.Its currently headed by Ahmad Izham Omar, a young and capable leader credited for changing the local English music scene.Its brand manager is Paul Moss, a recording executive who is also a judge on Malaysian Idol
