380kV-crossing Berlin

The 380kV-crossing Berlin is the 380kV-line built mainly as underground cables through the city of Berlin. The first section put in service in 1977 consists of an overhead line with two circuits from the Reuter power station. This was the first line to use plastic insulators. It runs next to a 110kV-powerline; these are the only overhead lines in the area of the former West Berlin. From there the line runs as underground cable to the Berlin center transformer station . This cable is water-cooled and laid in an accessible tunnel. Both Berlin Center transformer station and the Reuter transformer station use totally enclosed SF6-insulated switchgear. This the oldest 380kV-substation implemented in SF6-technology in Germany. After the reunification the Berlin 380kV-crossing was resumed in western direction to the Teufelsbruch transformer station and in eastern direction to the Friedrichshain transformer station. This line was laid in an accessible tunnel in up to 30 meters of depth, which has a small railway for better inspection.
