January 9 – Demonstrations by the National Farmers Association cause major chaos as farm machinery blocks many roads.
April 4 – The Fianna Fáil Party makes a presentation to former Taoiseach Sean Lemass.
April 18 – The Minister for Education, Donagh O'Malley, reveals his plan for a single multi-denominational University of Dublin. This would combine University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin.
July 1 – Jacqueline Kennedy goes racing at the Curragh with An Taoiseach Jack Lynch and Mrs. Lynch.
August 4 – Senator Margaret Pearse, sister of Pádraig Pearse and Willie Pearse, the executed 1916 leaders, is 89 today. She is greeted by President de Valera.
