1852 Democratic National Convention

The 1852 Democratic National Convention was held in Baltimore, Maryland. This convention is notable for the hostility between groups of the party, divided over the Compromise of 1850. Franklin Pierce, a dark horse candidate, beat out more notable members of the party such as Lewis Cass of Michigan, future president James Buchanan, and Stephen A. Douglas.
